Welcome to Music Together MN

Music Together: Bringing Harmony Home
Music Together® is a program of weekly music and movement classes for children from birth to five and the grownups who love them.  In class, you’ll sing, dance, laugh, play rhythm instruments and enjoy 45 minutes of PURE FUN with your child every week as you share his or her journey toward basic music competence. Our classes are mixed-age, so siblings can attend together and families receive CDs and songbooks so the fun and learning can continue at home.

We recognize that all children are musical and that every child needs a stimulating, supportive musical environment to achieve basic music competence. We define this as the ability to sing in tune, move and sing with rhythmic accuracy, and to participate with pleasure and confidence in the wonderful human capacity for music making.

At Music Together, our goal is to nurture each child’s natural enthusiasm for music and movement. In class, we enjoy activities that enrich children’s musical environment and guide them toward a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

We teach ten to twelve-week fall, winter and spring sessions in all of the locations listed below and also offer shorter summer sessions in most locations. We invite you to see if Music Together is a good fit for your family by attending a free demonstration class.

To schedule one, click on the location nearest you below. It will take you to the web site of one of the many Music Together centers participating in this cooperative web site. We have thirty locations in the Twin Cities and also in Mankato and St. Cloud in Minnesota and Hudson and River Falls in western Wisconsin.

Your child can be delighted and amazed by music. Make the most of these special years by making music together!

About Music Together®

Blaine
Bloomington

Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music program of weekly classes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and the grownups who love them. First offered in 1987, it pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.

Central to the Music Together approach is the recognition that young children learn best from the powerful role model of parents/caregivers who are actively making music. Research has shown that if adults are enthusiastic about making music, regardless of their skill level, the children in their care will be disposed to enjoy music making as well.

The goal of Music Together is to help children reach what the program defines as “basic music competence”: the ability to sing in tune, keep a beat and participate with pleasure and confidence in the wonderful human capacity for music making. Research done the Center for Music and Young Children, which is the research arm of Music Together shows that all children are inherently musical but that they need a stimulating, supportive musical environment in order for their musicality to develop fully.

Music Together creates such an environment in class as families share songs, instrument play, rhythm chants and movement activities in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting. So that the fun and learning continues at home, families take home a new CD and songbook each semester featuring great arrangements of original and traditional songs in a wide variety of tonalities, meters and cultural styles.

Music Together is unique among early childhood music programs in that it features mixed age classes, combining children from birth through age five in the same classroom so that siblings can participate together in family-style learning.
